Fall Produce Starting and Other Stuff
It may not be much, at the moment, but a few of the fall plantings are ready or getting close. We have a small amount of arugula ready to go and it's delicious! The cooler then average temps have helped the bugs stay off the leaves so it looks great too. If you're looking for arugula today or this weekend stop by and we will go out and cut it while you're here. It will only take a couple of minutes and it so good cut fresh. $4 a quarter pound. Radishes should be ready next week. Lettuce is coming soon as well. Along with these, we have planted:
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Cabbage
Kale
Carrots
Spinach
Beets
Turnips
Potatoes
Green Beans
We will let you know when these become available.
We have 100 new laying chickens that should start popping out their eggs in 2-3 weeks.
We are helping our honey bees get ready for winter by treating them for Varroa mites. Mites have become a huge problem for the bees and most hives have them.
So I'm out laying in the field getting ready to take in the eclipse a few days ago. It was about 2:30ish, face up to the sky, eyes closed tight, quite relaxing really. Next thing I know, Vicky is near me asking if I was all right! I totally missed the eclipse, but that two hour nap was AOK.
Locally yours,
Vicky and Steve
P.S. It feels so good to be back on the farm!!
